Galapagos Islands is home to the famous Galapagos Tortoise, which fully grown can

weigh up to 500 pounds and reach 6 feet in length. During your visit to the Research

Station you will get to see tortoises at all stages of growth from unhatched eggs to full-grown adults.

Baby tortoises hatch after four to eight months in the egg. They are extremely small and vulnerable when they first hatch, weighing as little as 50 grams (1.8 oz) and measuring 6 centimeters (2.4 in). Most of our guests love seeing the huge tortoises start out so small and learn about the incubation, hatching and growth stages of the tortoises.

You don’t only find Galapagos Tortoises at the Charles Darwin Research Station, you also get to see the Galapagos Land Iguana. Wild dogs that were brought to the island almost killed a colony of over 500 land iguanas in 1970’s. The Research Station was able to rescue 60 survivors and in an effort to re-build their population, they began a breeding program for iguanas in Santa Cruz. This breeding program is still active today! After your visit to the Charles Darwin Station, our guide will take you to get some dinner and go to the hotel to get ready for the next day.

DAY 02

Early in the morning, we will take the public speedboat to Santa Cruz around 07:00am,

which lasts about two hours. In Santa Cruz our coordinator will take to the beautiful Tortuga Bay Beach.

Tortuga Bay beach is famous for its expansive and pristine shoreline that gradually descends into the sparkling Pacific Ocean. It's a great place to try your hand at surfing (be careful) or just relax and soak in the sun with the Marine Iguanas. A snorkel in the beautiful lagoons reveals the full richness of the Galapagos marine life.

You can see colorful reef fish, white-tip sharks, rays and the beach's namesake, sea turtles. You should take time to walk through the Marine Iguana sanctuary where you might also catch a glimpse of Blue-Footed Boobies and Frigate birds along the shore. Once the tour is over, you will be taken to get some lunch and get ready to go to the Isabela Island.

You the speedboat to Isabela will leave around 14:00pm. In Isabela you will be take hotel to drop your luggage and rest. After a brief rest at the hotel, you will head to the Flamingoes Lake. This place is the largest lagoon in the Galapagos and is one of the

main breeding places for most of the Flamingoes.

Here begins a trek to the Sierra Negra volcano and then to the Volcano Chico. In this place you can feel the warm land as evidence that the volcano is active. In the afternoon, you will be taken back to the hotel.
